Playing Sultai in Commander

Sultai is the color trio of graveyard mastery and resource dominance. Blue draws cards and counters spells; black tutors and reanimates; green ramps and provides the best creatures. Sultai decks typically generate so much value from every zone — hand, battlefield, graveyard — that opponents simply can't keep up.

Sultai archetypes include graveyard value (self-mill into reanimation), lands-matter (The Gitrog Monster, Tatyova, and Muldrotha all care about lands), combo-control (assemble a combo, protect it with blue, tutor for it with black), mutant/insect tribal, and pure good-stuff midrange. Muldrotha is the poster commander — replaying one permanent of each type from your graveyard every turn is the Sultai value engine distilled to its essence.

Sultai's strength is that it does everything important. Ramp, draw, removal, counterspells, recursion, tutors — nothing is missing. The weakness, if there is one, is that Sultai decks can be unfocused. With access to so many powerful cards and strategies, it's easy to build a pile of individually great cards that don't synergize. The best Sultai decks have a clear plan and use their color trio's depth to execute it consistently rather than trying to do everything at once.
