Playing Simic in Commander

Simic is the color pair of value and inevitability. Green ramps and plays efficient creatures; blue draws cards and protects your plan. Together they generate more resources per turn than any other two-color combination. If your strategy is "do more stuff than everyone else," Simic is the mathematical answer.

Simic archetypes include +1/+1 counters (proliferate, double, and move counters around), lands-matter (ramp synergies with card draw to keep hitting land drops), flash/tempo (play everything at instant speed), clone strategies, and big-mana combo (generate infinite mana and draw your deck). Simic commanders are often card-advantage engines — Tatyova draws off landfall, Rashmi cascades off your first spell each turn, and Kinnan turns mana dorks into mana doublers.

Simic's strength is that it does the two most important things in Commander — ramp and draw — better than anyone. The weakness is removal. Neither blue nor green destroys creatures efficiently (green fights, blue bounces), so you sometimes watch helplessly as opponents assemble dangerous board states. Simic's answer is usually to be so far ahead on resources that it doesn't matter, which works more often than it should. There's a reason Simic has a reputation as the strongest color pair in Commander.
