Playing Green in Commander

Green is the color of growth, big creatures, and mana. It ramps harder than any other color, plays the biggest threats, and has the deepest creature toolbox in the format. In Commander, where the games are long enough for ramp to pay off and the biggest creature often wins, green is at its best.

Mono-green strategies include stompy (ramp into enormous threats and turn them sideways), elfball (generate absurd mana with elf tribal), voltron (pump a single creature to lethal), and lands-matter (leverage landfall triggers and land recursion). Green also has excellent enchantment and artifact removal — Beast Within and its descendants handle almost anything — plus the best creature tutoring in the format.

Green's weakness is a lack of direct removal for creatures (it relies on fighting or deathtouch rather than destroy effects) and no access to counterspells. It also struggles against combo decks that don't care about board presence. But green makes up for these gaps with sheer card quality — the average green creature outclasses every other color's, and green's mana advantage means you're always doing more than your opponents on any given turn.
