Playing Bant in Commander
Bant combines the three most synergy-friendly colors in Commander. Green provides ramp and creatures; white provides tokens and board protection; blue provides card draw and counterspells. The result is a color trio that builds elaborate board states, protects them, and buries opponents under cumulative advantage.
Bant archetypes include blink/flicker (the three-color apex — Roon, Brago, and Thassa all live adjacent to Bant), enchantress (Bant has the deepest enchantment pool), +1/+1 counters with proliferate, bird/spirit tribal, and voltron with hexproof commanders. Bant also has excellent toolbox strategies where you tutor for silver-bullet creatures to handle specific threats.
Bant's strength is resilience and flexibility. You ramp, draw, protect, and interact — all the fundamentals covered. The weakness is removal. Bant struggles to kill creatures efficiently — green fights, white exiles (usually at sorcery speed), and blue bounces. You don't have black's destroy effects or red's damage-based removal. This means you sometimes let a problematic creature stick around longer than you'd like. But Bant's ability to go over the top with value usually renders individual creatures irrelevant eventually.
